Repair of Steel Pipelines

For the better part of the past 20 years the pipeline industry has used composite materials to repair corrosion in gas and liquid pipelines. The goal for making these repairs is to restore damaged sections of pipe to performance levels that, at a minimum, are equal in strength to the original pipe. The primary use of composite materials has been to repair corrosion, although research dating back to the mid-1990s has also been conducted for repairing dents and other mechanical damage.

Standards related to the composite repair:

No. Standard Name Subject
1 ASME PCC2-chapter 4 Repair of pressure equipment and piping
2 ISO/TS 24817 Petroleum and petrochemical and natural gas industries – composite repair for pipe work – qualification and design installation testing and inspection
3 ASTM D543 Standard practice for evaluation resistance of plastics to chemical reagents
4 ASTM D1002 Standard test method for apparent shear strength of single lap-joint adhesively bonded metal specimens by tension loading
